Government of Telangana launches ‘Skills on Wheels’ to enhance youth employability

Skills on Wheels is a unique initiative launched by the Government of Telangana to enhance the skills of youth in the renewable energy space specially targeting the rural areas. A mobile van is retrofitted with solar modules that can travel to districts/mandals be parked there to generate solar energy at any location. Unemployed youth are mobilized from a district and a 30 day skilling program combining theory and practicals can be delivered.

The Skills on Wheels initiative was launched by Honorable Minster for IT & Industries, Shri K. T. Rama Rao as part of the launch of the yearly IT report on the 1st June 2018 and the van travelled to Warangal District. A batch of 54 youth underwent the training and the pilot was successfully concluded in July. 31 unemployed youth secured jobs after completion of the training and will be joining KIRBY, Renewsys, AVI and other solar companies. Few others are planning to start something on their own. Warangal-U District Collector Ms Amarapali K and Mr Sujiv Nair, CEO TASK handed the offer letters and certificates to participants as part of the valedictory session at Warangal. The van has now moved to Siddipet District for the next batch.

Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) along with the Steinbeis Academy for Advanced Technology Training and Entrepreneurship, India conducts a one-month Solar Panel Installation Technician Course.

Skills on Wheels Govt of Telangana

Course Overview:

  • Electrical Basics
  • Solar Panels and Power Plant Components
  • Installation of Off Grid and On Grid SPV Plant
  • Earthing and Safety
  • Site Survey, Maintenance and Troubleshooting
  • Soft Skills

Basic eligibility criteria for enrolling into the course:

ADVERTISEMENT
  • Age between 18 – 35 years
  • Minimum educational qualification of X class
Skills on Wheels Telangana

The course of study provides industry-relevant learning content to enhance and sharpen the required skills among the underprivileged youth / unemployed to provide opportunities for employment in the fast-growing solar sector at a highly subsidized cost of Rs.500/-.
