in Employability Skills, Industry

Inspiration: Industry leader’s story

In the video below you will see an interview with S.Chandrashekhar – who will give insights about the Bhorukha Power plant which focuses on renewable energy:

There are many companies giving preference to ITI students and making them a part of the industry. One such Company is Bhorukha power Corporation and their Managing director tells us how renewable energy sources work. He tells us that mainly there are 4 mature technologies – Hydro, Wind, Solar and Bio gas

He takes us through the power station that houses the turbine, generator and control room. Control room is the heart of the power station.

This requires different levels of skilled people:

  • First Level is the gardening, catering etc. people
  • Second level are called the helpers
  • The third level requires high level skills like electricians and fitters as there is a lot of high voltage equipment and high pressure pipelines. For these skills a lot of ITI students are hired.

The way they train is take raw ITI students who are given 6 months training and then absorbed in the corporation. They start with small tasks like taking readings, watch how important operations are done, take care of an alarm going off etc. and it takes them 3 years to become full-fledged operators.

According to him 20 years back power stations were operated by graduate engineers, now the ITI syllabus has also improved. Today most of the power stations for regular shifts are operated by ITIs.

Renewable Energy, he says is the only form of energy available all over the country. In every area you produce energy and the locals get benefits, people get employment and there is no moving from rural to urban. This energy is clean, natural and renewable and is helping skill development in the nation. Labour employment ministry of Indian Government is training people through ITIs who can handle this mission.
