To strengthen the skill -based training programs through industry partnerships and bridge the gap between unorganized and organized sectors, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has entered into a collaboration with Jaquar Foundation (JF) and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI). The partnership is aimed at establishing and upgrading the labs for training in plumbing and automotive skills respectively. Both Jaquar and Honda Motorcycles will channelize their CSR initiatives to contribute to boost Skill India Mission.

Jaquar Foundation (JF) and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) partnership will NSDC will help in scaling capacity for skill-based training. This will help many stakeholders including the NSDC affiliated training partners and enhancing quality of training for the candidates with modern and relevant tools and machinery, enabling them to contribute towards their employers from an early stage.

These partnerships with major industry players – Honda and Jaquar – will not only benefit youth who undergo high-quality trainings but also allow the industry to meet its requirements for trained manpower.”
In the first phase of the collaboration, HMSI will establish or upgrade ten automotive two-wheeler repair labs for running a course on “Automotive Service Technician (2 or 3-wheeler).” The next phase of collaboration may entail scaling up the labs further. Providing vehicles, tools and equipment, HMSI will help in building capacity of NSDC training partners at different locations around the country.
In the agreement with Jaquar Foundation, a unit of Jaquar Group, the bathing solutions company, will set up or upgrade 50 plumbing training labs and provide infrastructural and manpower support. It will depute its customer care representatives as guest faculty for sharing new product installation techniques. The training program aims to enhance technical abilities of the trainers and trainees along with increasing employability of the candidates. Plumbing, under construction industry, is an unorganized sector. About 90% of the plumbing industry workforce in India is not professionally trained. Most of the skill learning in the industry happens through unstructured or on-the job training. Lack of professionally trained plumbers is one of the major challenges in the construction and related sectors. This collaboration with Jaquar will be a significant initiative to equip trainees with formal training.
