Ministry of Tribal Affairs partners Facebook India: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has partnered with Facebook India to launch a new initiative to digitally skill 5,000 tribal youth in the country. The initiative aims to enable scheduled tribe youth in remote areas to use digital platforms for sharing their aspirations, dreams and talent with their mentors.

‘Support and Survive IT’ initiative by TechnoparkToday: TechnoparkToday has launched an initiative ‘Support and Survive IT’ to help techies who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 crisis. NSDC collaborates with The/Nudge Foundation for #charcha2020: NSDC collaborated with The/Nudge Foundation for a Skill Development and Entrepreneurship event at #charcha2020. The event was supported by  the deAsra Foundation and G.A.M.E. India. The event #charcha2020 was held from May 14th to May 16th, 2020 where 50 eminent speakers and panelists addressed 24 sessions over three days. Know more…

Aviation skill development centre to be established at Mopa: The Aviation Skill Development Centre will be established within the Mopa airport premises. Earlier, the aviation skill development centre was to be started at ITI in Pernem.

LAND pooling model to corporatising agriculture: Some of the proposals that have been drafted by a Group of Ministers (GOM) on employment and skill development are a LAND pooling model enabling corporatisation of agriculture, opening up EPF and ESIC for the unorganised sector and merging the MNREGA with skill development programmes to create a wage subsidy programme.

Other ITI should follow Berhampur’s example- Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey: All ITIs in the country should follow Berhampur’s example. They will replicate the technique developed at ITI in Odisha’s Berhampur to convert discarded microwave ovens into UV sanitiser chambers for the disinfection of mobile phones, pens and other small items carried by medical staff.

MNCs and other companies would get benefits through the portal as they would be able to recruit the qualified and trained workforce for their industries.

Lava International to shift mobile phone manufacturing, R&D to India: Lava International will shift its Design, Manufacturing, Research, and Development (R & D) hub from China to India in the following 6 months. This move will give a major boost to union govt campaigns such as ‘Make in India’ and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Local me liye Vocal’ initiative.

A database of skilled NRI returnees: The government has planned to prepare a database of skilled workers coming from Gulf and other countries to keep a pool of skilled labour ready for potential investors when the economy picks up. Read more…

Vocational courses to be introduced in 55 schools in Tripura: The government of Tripura is going  to introduce vocational courses on Information Technology (IT), retail management, electronics and agriculture to 55 more schools. The courses are already being taught in 80 schools for the last two academic years

Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security by IETE: IETE has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security. ‘Centre of Excellence: Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Security’, is part of the initiative of IETE’s future growth strategy.

DU to conduct semester exam online: Delhi University (DU) has launched new plans for conducting internal assessments, practical, theory exams etc. before this academic term ends amidst the Covid-19 lockdown. Practical, Viva-Voce, Projects, Oral (Moot courts), Apprenticeship, Internship, Field Work etc. must be completed before the end term theory exam 2020 can be held.

Pearson India launches MyPedia Alexa skill: Pearson India has launched MyPedia Alexa skill to  help enhance English vocabulary. The Pearson MyPedia skill offers a collection of engaging stories coupled with fun facts, trivia, quizzes and rewards. To get started a user needs to say “Alexa, open MyPedia”, or simply “Alexa, I want to learn English”.

Online portal to provide employment to skilled people: The government of Uttarakhand has launched an online portal, hope.uk.gov.in to provide employment to skilled people. The Mukhyamantri Swarojgar Yojana was launched earlier to provide a common platform via the online portal for job aspirants from the hill state. Read more…

Tribal women make PPE kits for corona warriors: Over 700 tribal women are stitching PPE kits for corona warriors in Dungarpur. They are producing the kits as part of the contract given to a rainwear company in the district for 100,000 PPE kits by the Union Textile Ministry.
