Meta has launched its first standalone Asia office in Gurugram, Haryana with an aim to unleash the skills of entrepreneurs and small business owners. The office was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and Information Technology of India, Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
With the establishment of the office, Meta is planning to skill 1 crore small businesses and 2,50,000 creators over the next three years in the country through its Centre for Fuelling India’s New Economy (C-FINE). The C-FINE will be housed in the new office facility in Gurugram that will contain teams from Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
While speaking at the launch, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, “PM Narendra Modi’s policies and vision is empowering entrepreneurship and opportunities in India. Technology is catalysing entrepreneurship and fuelling growth of investments and economic growth. I have always been talking about both entrepreneurship and technology because I believe these two are deeply connected.”
This new office will train and skill India’s small business owners, entrepreneurs and local communities.
He further said, “I hope initiatives like C-FINE, where technology is being positioned to elevate entrepreneurship and innovation which will help to empower youngsters across the country, is exactly what the power of the internet and technology will do. The reason why I have committed so many years to public life is to see that technology is all about doing good and transforming the lives of the people.”
Meta’s office will act as a hub to transform the sectors of education, commerce and healthcare by demonstrating technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
He also said, “I believe that there is an unprecedented opportunity for us as a nation. The world is being disrupted, and is changing and expanding due to the use of technology. We have a government that is deeply committed to technology.”

He concluded the ceremony by saying, “Hearing stories about how entrepreneurship has been empowered by platforms remind me of what I have been saying through the late 80’s that the internet must be utilized for the overall good of people.”
