LabourNet’s RPL initiatives in Apparel and other industry sectors

LabourNet is a social enterprise that enables sustainable livelihoods for disadvantaged men, women, children and youth in the urban and rural areas. The three-pronged engine integrates social and business impact by bridging the gaps in Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship. LabourNet has been implementing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) projects in several industry sectors*. Let’s get to know about some of them.

The Apparel RPL project was conducted under the PMKVY by LabourNet for Raymond Tailors and Sewing Machine Operators. The figures for this RPL program are:

Total number sanctioned – 5000

Total number achieved till date – 866

Total number of states covered in India – 13

Highlight of the project: Identifying the Raymond Master Tailors through skill certification

LabourNet RPLSome of the important learnings were:

  • Introduction to NSQF and getting to know the benefits of certification
  • Refreshing their technical skills
  • Improving the drafting and alteration skills
  • Introduction to the Raymond AW16 and SS17 Collections and Fit grid
  • Improving their soft skills like workplace management, customer interaction etc.

Labour Net has also conducted RPL programs under PMKY for many other job roles like dairy workers, courier delivery executives, Leather stitching and Human Resource trainees.

What the candidates and employers had to say about RPL training and certification:

 Nasima_LabourNetNasima Khatun: She is a 10th pass who comes from a economically backward family, keen to learn and earn to be able to support her family financially. She heard about the RPL training in Leather for stitching. She participated in the training program conducted by Labournet and improved her skills in stitching. She is now earning a much better salary and able to support her family. She is very thankful to the PMKY for this training which gave her a Government certificate for the training she successfully completed.

 

Avdesh_LabourNetAvdesh Kumar: He is a courier delivery executive who attended the RPL training under PMKY conducted by LabourNet. He is very thankful to them as he benefited a lot from the training in terms of handling client and colleagues. He also improved his presentation skills and time management skills.

 

Vernon LabourNetVernon Massar: He is the HR Manager of Myntra and says “the PMKY RPL training is very informative, effective and is required in this ever competitive market as it develops the skills of the workforce and they in turn are more productive, more engaged at work and they are given a chance to learn, grow and practice these skills that the moderator teaches them. The sessions are very organized and the moderators are very energetic.”
