National Skill Development Mission

The Union Cabinet authorised the National Skill Development Mission on July 1, 2015, and the Hon. Prime Minister formally inaugurated it on July 15, 2015, in honour of World Youth Skills Day. The mission was aimed at bringing together states and sectors in terms of skill training activities. Additionally, the National Skill Development Mission would accelerate decision-making across sectors to achieve skilling at scale with speed and standards in order to realise the goal of a “Skilled India,” in addition to consolidating and coordinating skilling efforts.

Key institutional mechanisms for implementing the Mission’s objectives are divided into three tiers, they include:

  • Governing Council for policy guidance at apex level,
  • Steering Committee
  • Mission Directorate (along with an Executive Committee) as the executive arm of the Mission.
