Beauty Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC), in association with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has launched Student’s Handbooks on Yoga for Classes XI and XII to promote overall wellbeing and employability skills amongst school students.

Commenting on the launch of Yoga handbooks, Mr Manoj Ahuja, Chairperson, CBSE said, “As per our National Education Policy 2020, at least 50% of our students should have exposure to vocational education. I am extremely proud that today CBSE is launching Yoga, the heritage of India, as a vocational skill for students of classes XI and XII. I would like to thank the Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Council for putting together these NSQF compliant vocational courses in Yoga for CBSE. National Education Policy talks about holistic education consisting of physical, social, emotional and mental well-being for our students. Yoga, being an integral part of this overall development, would fulfil many objectives of our National Education Policy. This endeavour of institutionalizing Yoga as a skill subject for school students would lead them to a path for their career and also for their own 360* development. This collaboration would further involve ‘Teacher’s Training’ in CBSE system and with B&WSSC, we would now ensure that we have trained teachers in CBSE schools.”

B&WSSC and CBSE Sharing his thoughts on this collaborative effort between B&WSSC and CBSE, Padma Shri Dr. H. R. Nagendra said, “promoting Yoga as a skill through schools across India is a big milestone for our education system. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision to push Yoga in the forefront for one’s total personality development has been further taken up by all the ministries. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship through Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC) is promoting Yoga with CBSE and NCERT in the formal education system.”

Dr. Hansaji Yogendra while sharing her thoughts said, “Yoga is an experiential science and introducing Yoga as a skill subject in schools would encourage the students to experience it in their crucial development years of life. Yoga will also help students to focus and channelize their thoughts and energies by concentrating on important aspects of life. Yoga will bring focus in the life of these students and hence will make them happier and blissful individuals.”
