DGT, MSDE launches 5 high-end Diploma Courses approved by NCVT

by Team NSN

in Government, News

Vocational training courses offered by technical training institutions are gradually getting more relevant and industry-driven. Soon, students will have more options to enrol for courses that would get them jobs and apprenticeships in their field of choice. This includes industries like the IT, Manufacturing and Electronics. In line with the emerging need for technical talent in various industries, the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) announced the launch of five high-end diploma courses in the skill ecosystem for the academic year 2017. The courses were approved at the Sub-Committee meeting of NCVT at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi on 27th May 2017.

5 new diploma courses

The five new high-end Diploma courses are:

  • Welding Technology

  • Industrial Electronics & Automation

  • Manufacturing Technology

  • Automotive Technology and IT

  • Networking and Cloud Computing

The need for advance level courses/ specialized courses has been long felt in the vocational training landscape in the country. The courses are of two years duration and will be introduced from August/September 2017 at Advanced Training Institutes (ATIs). These courses would enable trainees to acquire cutting edge training by providing an opportunity to sharpen their “hands-on skills” in specialized areas such as computerized pneumatic control (CNC) machining, automotive technology, welding, mechatronics, industrial electronics and automation. This would also extend the skill pyramid beyond current vocational training set up. Over and above this, one fourth of the training period is dedicated for on-the-job training in the form of an industrial attachment.

Commenting on the development, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, MoS (I/C), Skill Development & Entrepreneurship,   , “Inclusion of these courses in the skill ecosystem is driven from the demand by the industry and the advent of technology that the country is witnessing. Resources need to be multi-skilled and multi-tasking and be well equipped to scale themselves to the demand of this New India. With this development, our Advanced Training Institutes (ATIs) will narrow the gap between demand and supply in the industry. These steps will also take us closer to our vision of making India the skill capital of the world.”

The meeting was attended by a host of government officials from MSDE, Ministry of Textiles, and state government representatives from Haryana, Tripura, Chandigarh (UT), Bihar and Rajasthan.

Present at the meeting, Mr. Sunil Joshi, Deputy Director from Government of Rajasthan said, “This is a great step forward. We wholeheartedly welcome and support the introduction of five diploma courses this year. Earlier, there was no upgradation of the qualifications of an individual in a particular trade. Now, with the introduction of the said diplomas, the candidates will have an added qualification in their respective trades. It will enhance their qualifications leading to lucrative job opportunities.”
