2019 Year in review: New initiatives that strengthen the base of skilling

To strengthen the evolving skilling ecosystem in India, we need patience, optimism and an undeterred faith in our ability to keep learning. Few things may work while may not! But that shouldn’t discourage us in learning from what has worked and reflecting on what hasn’t. Most importantly, we need to recognize the efforts of people who make it work. Among them, the contribution of vocational trainers is the most significant. The question is: how do we build up the pillars on which the foundation of skill development and vocational training is being laid?

2019 saw few key initiatives like Kaushalacharya awards for vocational trainers, the induction of Indian Skill Development Service personnel and setting up of Indian Institute of Skills. We hope recognition and rewards for trainers along with lucrative pay packages get further attention in both private and government sectors.

Skill Trainers honoured with Kaushalacharya Awards on the occasion of Teacher’s Day

A total of 53 trainers from diverse backgrounds including experts of WorldSkills Competition winners, trainers from National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), Industrial Training Centres (ITI), Jan Sikshan Sansthans (JSS) and trainers from reputed Corporate houses were honored at a gathering of government and industrial experts held on the occasion of Teachers’ Day by Skill India. Renewing the pledge to improve the skilling ecosystem of the country these Trainers included 19 Experts of winners from Team India who competed at WorldSkills 2019 in Kazan, Russia; 15 Skill Trainers from the NSTI/ITI ecosystem; 9 Corporate trainers awarded from companies namely Adobe, IBM, Microsoft, Maruti, ONGC, Bosch, Bhel and Aegis; and 10 Trainers from JSS. MSDE inducts first batch of Indian Skill Development Service (ISDS) cadre

The newest central government services aimed at boosting the evolving skills ecosystem in India launched the training program on 9th September 2019 at Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Mysuru. The first batch being inducted form a part of Group ‘A’ Services, specially created for Training Directorate of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). This batch joining the ISDS cadre are from the Indian Engineering Service (IES) Examination conducted by UPSC. It is desired that the young talent will contribute to successful administration of various skilling initiatives from Skill India mission. Read more…

Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey lays foundation stone for Indian Institute of Skills, Mumbai

In a path-breaking initiative to make India Skill Capital of the World, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), laid the foundation stone of Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) at Mumbai. The main objective of IIS is to provide skill-based education and training to students who want to pursue higher education after completing Class X and Class XII, making them employable and industry-ready for the New India and the global market.

Indian Institute of Skills envisions world-class skill training centres in line with reputed educational institutes like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institution of Management (IIM), with first-hand learning facilities from internationally renowned existing skill institutions.
