The year 2020 marks a decade of many initiatives, schemes and reforms from the government and the private sector. A common theme binding these programs was how to make skills and vocational education aspirational. Along with this we also looked into how do we create a demand, getting the right candidates and place them in the right jobs so that the value multiples for more youth to take up skilling programs.
As we approach the year-end, we need to look back and see how much have we achieved on this and how far we have to go. A journey like this in India where there are complex and diverse realities and predominantly an engineering and management-oriented education system, making a case for skilling is a big challenge.
One of the most important initiatives is the launch of Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship in collaboration with IIM Bangalore. This fellowship could attract many youth who are are excited to make a difference in the lives of youth in the districts by providing efficient management and process efficiency in implementing schemes like SANKALP in many states.

To commemorate World Youth Skills Day on July 15, 2019 and celebrate the 4th Anniversary of the Skill India Mission, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) organized “Kaushal Yuva Samwaad” (A Youth Dialogue). Kaushal Yuva Samwaad was aimed at creating an open dialogue with the youth across all skill training centres to hear their views, ideas, opportunities and recommendations which could help the Ministry in scaling the existing programs and improve overall efficiency of its projects.
